Gwalgen's latest publication is a story he was commissioned to do by his perennial favorite, the Dominion. It's a story on a powerful union in all over North America doing some really interesting and ground breaking stuff. Their a mainly hotel/service workers union, predominantly immigrant, who engage in rolling strikes, continent-wide action and major community projects.
Their kicking ass too.
At the same time, foreign farm workers in Manitoba, Quebec and BC are cutting the crap as well and joined the United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW) of Canada. An anonymous worker speaks on the situation:
"Now we are hoping we will get our pay on time. We hope now we will finally get clean water. The water now isn't even good enough to take showers. Some of us are getting sick. We've never had decent water," he said, speaking through interpreter Erika Del Carmen Fuchs of the advocacy group Justicia."
