In the not-oft-heard about category, Zmag has an interesting story on the fight for land, self-sufficiency and land reform by small farmers in Egypt. It's an interesting read for those policy wonks and such who are interested in "active-government" policy.
In other far away lands, Mongolia is arresting people digging around for left-over scraps of metals because they are pissing off the many multi-nationals scrambling for more resources. Indiscriminate arresting, beatings and detention without trial of "ninja-miners" have become common place. There's a video that goes along with it.
Meanwhile closer to home, Dru at the Dominion asks why with all the coverage of Burma recently, more outlets aren't looking at someone helping that evil ol' un-dem-o-cra-tic junta: Canadian mining company Ivanhoe mines "the fourth largest contributor in export income for the military junta".
While it seems that only the Tyee has answered that call.
