Though I always love Norway when it comes to the state-centric economy, strong full employment, welfare, deomcratic parties and organizations, civil society and foreign policy towards regulating companies and Palestine, they often piss me off when it comes to many of their social policies.
Norway can be pretty racist on a lot of things. Their foreign-born representation in parliament is appauling even for a non-colonizing nation (unless you count the northern first-nations population). Though they let in one of the highest ratio of refugees per capita in the world, they have one of the most restrictive immigration policies in the world, with the foreign born population hovering only around 5%. To boot, the refugee policy requires new refugees to stay in the town they live in for 7 years before relocating. Imagine how this turns out for the folks from central Uganda who get flown above the arctic circle, mid-winter. I'm sure the adjustment goes just peachy.
As well, certain standards of conduct are socially enforced with a hammer. Many small towns are ultra-christian with often harsh stances on gay-rights and abortion brought forth by the Christian People's Party. Extroverts like yours-truly are frowned upon. And there was a recently new cross-party alliance to bring together opposition to sexual images on TV as protection for children. Prudes.
Anyways, the latest weird thing to add to the "illegal not to put your flag out on independence day" law is this case where flag burning of ANY nation is apparently illegal too.
