This article in AllAfrica.com looks at Brazil's going importance in the economics of Africa, which holds 40% of the worlds mineral resources. A number of countries are gunning for gold in Africa including China, the US, Belgium, Sweden and India. Not to mention South Africa and our good friends in Canada who are #1 and #2 in prospect mining on the continent.
Brazil it seems is seeking to bring a moral edge to its African expansion and, far from just economic ties, is also building embassies, engaging in summits and apologizing for the slave trade which took place many moons ago.
