Redemption of the Right

Andrew Coyne, poster boy writer for the sane right in Canada, has been taking the Conservative Party to task over the last week on a variety of issues. After blasting the Conservative budget as being basically the same in money spent as any other budget by a Liberal (the most cash blown ever), he has gone off on Conservative tactics and now the Conservatives who read his blog and think the Conservative Party can do no wrong.

In addition, he has been puffing up talk about the possibility that instead of another election, if the Liberals fall, we may see, incredibly, a coalition government take over comprised of the Libs, Bloc and NDP. This is the kind of crazy talk that makes a political scientist cum in his/her pants.

On the other side of the planet, I saw this piece about Israeli Ngo's trying to secure the release of Sudanese refugees currently in Israeli prisons. I know stories from Israel often focus on the asshole government and the appalling treatment of the Palestinian population, but as someone once mentioned to me, Israeli's occupation is a lot like Canada's treatment of the First-Nations populations. Most people here and there don't give a shit about our occupation of land though often we hear about the good minority of people here fighting our own occupation and mistreatment. Just a reminder that many people in Israel are fighting for justice and deserve props.
