Agreement: A UBC economist points out that in BC's booming economy all businesses want free market principles to prevail...except when it comes to paying people more wages.

Rage: Though the Supreme court of Canada struck down parts of the legislation that the BC government used to strip hospital workers of their right to bargainin 2002, the government is refusing to compensate any of the people they fucked over. Minister Abbott:
"Does Abbott agree that affected health care workers must be compensated?
"No, I do not."
What about suggestions that a settlement with the unions could run to half a billion dollars?
"I don't believe that to be accurate."
He also rejects the union view that the current round of health care layoffs can be traced back to the privatization of jobs in the wake of Bill 29.
"Most of those are not related to Bill 29," Abbott said.
He's checked and found the layoffs are not connected to the legislation?
"Yes, that is correct."
Urge to kill: A couple of anti-poverty groups in Vancouver challenge the mayor and some counsellors to live 2 months in poverty.
