In my ongoing love to document deception, the Asian Times has a great article on the use of private military contractors to wage war in Iraq. Blackwater and Kellog Brown and Root (private, possibly corrupt military contractors) apparently have close to 126,000 personel in Iraq! Us soldiers? 145,000. Making this probably the largest corporate army I've ever heard of, next to Mussolini's force. They got their asses kicked too.
"From the beginning, these contractors have been a major hidden story of the war, almost uncovered in the mainstream media and absolutely central to maintaining the US occupation of Iraq. "
Speaking of poor reporting, Greg Palast lambasts the US media in an article devoted to the major stories of the last year which have been completely ignored.
"I know some of the reasons why investigative reporting is on the decline. To begin with, investigations take time and money. A producer from "60 Minutes," watching my team's work on another voter purge list, said: "My God! You'd have to make hundreds of calls to make this case." In America's cash-short, instant-deadline world, there's not much room for that."
Closer to home, it seems the Vancouver's ruling party is about to undergo an internal spat for the 3rd time in a row. First it was the NPA under Owen, then Cope under Campbell and Now the NPA again as Peter Ladner challenges Sam Sullivan for the throne of Vancouver.
"Four people who are seen as part of Ladner's team won places on the [NPA] board. That result stunned some longtime observers, who had assumed that Sullivan's slate would prevail in the covert campaigns that neither side would publicly admit they were running."
