The final score in the Sweden vs. Cuba verbal brawl over who has the better human rights record ends in a 2-0 score for Cuba. This article in Zmag, while not giving a critique of Cuba's disputed crack downs on government dissent, pretty much gives the diplomatic equivalent of a curb stomping to Sweden, raking them over the coals for their treatment of refugees and minorities...as well as their racist and colonial past. It then goes on to take the entire EU to task for its towing the line on US anti-Cuban propaganda.
Norway on the other hand had its largest oil company take over "Canada's North American Oil Sands Corp. in a USD 2 billion deal. Arild Hemstad, manager of watchdog organization The Future in our hands called the decision a "tragedy" as an indicator of the state-controlled company's environmental policy."
Finally, in a massive labour development brand spankin new and amazing, The United Steelworkers Union is fusing with 2 massive equivalent unions in the UK! This apparently will "create not only the first transatlantic but the first genuinely multinational trade union," ever. I predict more to come in the future as solidarity and organized political and institutional action will rally for a comeback.
